Encourage life-time learning
Doctors tell us that unborn children begin learning months before birth. While we might not all agree with every doctor, but I’ll bet we all agree that a child will learn to speak the language of their parent. Well, it’s a cinch the child heard that language spoken months before it was born. The child will easily learn to communicate in that language.
Your child learned to speak your language because you encouraged them to use of that language. And it naturally follows, if that child does not hear another language, when encouraged by their parent that child will become more proficient in reading and writing in the language. The converse is also true; without encouragement from their parent children become less proficient. Your children will mimic your lifelong learning values. You enhance your gift when you teach them the art of excellence; model a value for lifelong learning.
